About “AMERICA BAAPU”:
In 2014, we helped a young Bengali woman who was stranded at Dallas Airport. We later came to know one another online and, when she announced her engagement to be married in 2015, she asked that we come to India to be in her wedding party as her “American parents.”
A few people on Quora.com asked me to write about that experience. To my surprise, more than 100,000 Indians read the travelogue that I wrote! Today, I have lots of online friends in India, mostly young people. Some of us have become so close they are like sons and daughters to me: “The sons and daughters of my heart”. They call me “Baapu”, “Baba”, “Angel Paa”, “Touji”, “Papa Rick”, and “Dad.”
This year, we returned to India. We stayed with the families of some of those young people in five different cities in India. My latest book will tell that story. Scheduled for publication in early 2018, the book will be called “AMERICAN BAAPU: India Through My Eyes”
The book is in three parts. Part One is a more detailed version of that original travelogue. Part Two tells the story of how that led to my getting to know so many awesome young people from that side of the world. Part Three (the largest part of the book) describes our 2017 visit.
